i know the arguements against raising fuel taxes (it's regressive), but we have to do this. for lower income people, perhaps the extra cost can be offset with other tax credits.

but we just simply have to focus on consumption, and stop pretendig that we can consume in an unrestricted fashion forever. it comes at a price.

how would people people react if their gas taxes included surcharges for the Iraq war cost and the realist proportion of our defense budget that goes to securing our safe access to global oil system?
