Attn: calling all non-racist super delegates

Tue Mar 11, 2008 at 07:11:34 PM PDT

We need you now. Put an end to this stuff, if you truly love the democratic party. Ferraro's statements and Hillary's willingness to let them stand are unacceptable to what the democratic party stands for.

Endorse Barack Obama now.

Get this over with.

If you are a superdelegate on the national stage, or representing my district, and you give your vote to Hillary after this, consider any future vote or donation from  me as lost.

Consider the 2008 presidency lost.

Blatant racism is not what I expect from my party or those I elect to represent me.

Kissing the African American vote goodby is stupid. It will be the death of the democratic party. I will be looking to join a 3rd party, and I think it will be successful

Have a meeting, call a vote, endorse Obama. Get this overwith.

I am angry and saddened by the tone this election is taking.
You have the power to put an end to this. The question is do you have the guts.

    •  Gerry Feraro (0+ / 0-)

      Race baiting since 1988:

"If Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn't be in the race," she said.

Really. The cite is an April 15, 1988 Washington Post story (byline: Howard Kurtz), available only on Nexis.

      Here's the full context:

Placid of demeanor but pointed in his rhetoric, Jackson struck out repeatedly today against those who suggest his race has been an asset in the campaign. President Reagan suggested Tuesday that people don't ask Jackson tough questions because of his race. And former representative Geraldine A. Ferraro (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that because of his "radical" views, "if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn't be in the race."

Asked about this at a campaign stop in Buffalo, Jackson at first seemed ready to pounce fiercely on his critics. But then he stopped, took a breath, and said quietly, "Millions of Americans have a point of view different from" Ferraro's.

Discussing the same point in Washington, Jackson said, "We campaigned across the South . . . without a single catcall or boo. It was not until we got North to New York that we began to hear this from Koch, President Reagan and then Mrs. Ferraro . . . . Some people are making hysteria while I'm making history."

      Pls correct typo: "BlatANT racism"......thanks.

Your diary really echoes what I feel.  Thanks for writing this.

...they have lost my respect!  Plain and Simple!  I hope Al Gore is a good man, I hope John Edwards is a good man, I hope Nancy Pelosi is a good woman!  I hope the good people in the Democratic Party is better than their Dixiecrat past!  If it isn't, fuck 'em and the donkey they rode in on!

    •  Gee . . . (0+ / 0-)

We need true leadership from someone in this party other than Barack Obama.

Maybe, just maybe, Barack (and his supporters) might have a small lack of objectivity?

Maybe, just maybe, it might be because the Leadership wants the process to go through?

  •  The (in)action of the party will set precedents. (1+ / 0-)

Future candidates watching this primary race will learn:

~ if campaigning to seat delegates from two uncontested primaries is acceptable.

~if trotting out former presidents to attack fellow democrats is cool.

~if having said presidents attempt to marginalize entire states w/racial innuendo is all right.

~if pitting blacks against hispanics (in nevada, in california, in texas) to win votes is fine.

~if pitting blacks against whites (in every state with a more than 10% black pop.) to win votes is kosher.

~if an endless number of racist race-challenged racist surrogates are legitimate tools for a democratic candidate.

Whatever the result, the future Latino/White/Black Obama will learn just how much the party will let certain candidates get away with without intervention. So far, it looks like an awful lot.

We're watching history in the making. The silence is deafening.

Kudos to the folks who weren't silent. Kennedy, Kerry, you guys get a lot of credit.

As discussed on MSNBC, this is a tactic the Clinton camp wants to carry into PA.  Carvell described part of the state as a mini Alabama.  This is a horrible tactic.

I would do an online petition with this theme but more research and examples because many have short memories.

I would then send it to every one of the Supers - declared or not.

But, I'm a teacher and my students are in the middle of a state assessment this week thanks to NCLB so I have no time and like I said earlier, no skills either.

And what happens when the superdelegates annouce for Obama thereby giving him the nomination and Hillary beats him in handily in PA? Do you really think he'll win PA in November if that happens?

The supers have to wait. They can't be shown up by the voters.

    •  I don't think PA will matter by the general (0+ / 0-)

for Hillary or Obama, if this kind of talk continues, because the party will be so bitterly divided.

I don't think African Americans will show up for Hillary in PA in the general after 6 weeks of racist talk within the party, and PA will be lost, anyway. Sympathetic white voters like myself, will be doing some soul searching too.

That's why I'm saying do something now.
Hillary cannot mathematically win. She's counting on the supers to swing her way to get the nomination. So the PA primary vote doesn't really change anything. But allowing the bloodletting to continue does.

  •  Are we Republicans or Democrats? (0+ / 0-)

I always thought that there was one party that would appeal to voter's worst instincts and one party that would appeal to voter's best instincts.  Hillary Clinton is making me question that entire dichotomy.

  •  WAIT A MINUTE (0+ / 0-)

Just, what, a day ago, BHO supporters were saying if the Super's steal this, they are bolting the Party.

NOW you are saying if they DON'T steal this, you are bolting the Party.

    My head is spinning.

  •  So, let me get this straight . . . (0+ / 0-)

. . .A super delegate is racist if they don't come out for Obama against Hillary, because of what Ferraro said?

Your diary stretches the rubber band of credibility to the brink of breaking. Clinton disavowed Ferraro's comments hours ago.
