They will win, only if we let them

Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 08:31:18 AM PDT

I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to feel a little righteous indignation rising up in me. The faux outrage and manipulation taking place in the public media these days is really looking obvious. I do believe that  Hannity and Rush jumped the shark with their all day made up tirade about the Blank Panther supporter on myobama yesterday.

I was already feeling threatened that the democratic party machine was going to somehow undermine the will of the people and take the nomination away from Obama, when the Wright videos came out.

My heart sank, and the knot in my stomach tightened when I saw them. They  seemed like 180 degrees from what Obama represents to me.

I thought , "Why is Obama in the church?"

That thought has turned to,

IT'S NONE OF MY BUSINESS, why he is in that church.

Something in that church, helped make Obama the person he is today, and mold his ideas on how to make the changes in this country that need to be made. The resulting human being standing in the center of the political spotlight is an amazing human being. It's obvious his way to deal with problems is not the same as Rev. Wright. But even that does not matter. That part of Obama's life is his business, not mine.

Which brings me back to my indignation.

I sat thru 10 days of continuously playing the Dean scream, and watched Dean go down in flames.

I watched machine rear its ugly head, and swiftboat Kerry, and applaud people wearing little bandaids declaring that a man who had been shot in the line duty, hadn't been "shot enough."

Then I watched Obama stand up to the machine on Tuesday.
I saw Faux and Rush continue to fan the flames, and I felt my fear that Obama was going to fail, turn to anger.

It's Blowback time.

The only way they win, is if we let them.
They expect us to rollover.
That has been our modus operandi.

If Obama can stand up there and bare his soul.
I can catch his back. So can you.

I'm sure we've all been contributing. I'd love to see a $100,000,000 month.

If you are in Pennsylvanis, or North Carolina, or Indiana. Show up at his rallies. Register to vote. Show up and vote. Bring a friend.

The rest of us can write letters and send e-mails.
Make a noise.

If Obama goes down, it shouldn't be because we were afraid to standup for him. That is the very thing we accuse our fearless leaders of in Congress.

This is our "Iraq War Vote".

Are we going to tell our children that we were afraid to stand up to the Joe McCarthy of our era?

It's time for a little righteous blowback.
Enough is enough.

Yes. We. Can.

so then you feel the same from anyone who sits through a David Duke type church?  Lets not lose backbone here.

    •  I'll take the bait (3+ / 0-)

If someone who in every other way seemed like a decent human being were characterized as "attending a David Duke church", I'd want to know more. I'd want to know--what was being said, and in what context? I'd want to know, how and why would someone who otherwise seems very decent would be involved with such a church.

And I'd probably find out 1 or more of the following

      1. The church isn't as bad as originally painted
      1. The person has some complex personal reason for attending that church
      1. The person isn't as decent as I thought
      1. Wow, there are an awful lot of crazy churches out there if you just look hard enough.

In Obama's case, I think 1, 2, and 4 are legitimate responses. Some people are hoping for reaction 3.

Of course, I like to think I'm a critical thinker with an open mind. How about you?

Barack Obama will only become president if enough people pay attention, so pay attention, dammit!
