Clinton Dead-Ender is a WI Pledged Delegate

Fri Jun 13, 2008 at 04:29:32 PM PDT

"No self-respecting woman should wish or work for the success of a party that ignores her - that's by Susan B. Anthony,"

Where have we seen this quote before?  Any guesses?  hillaryis44 perhaps?  Yep.

Noquarter?  Yeah.

All of them.  It's been their Mantra.

Well, it's also been Debra Bartoshevich's mantra.  She's become a Clinton Dead-Ender. Why is this a big deal?  She's a pledged delegate from WI.  Even better, she plans on voting McCain in November.

More below the fold....

In an interview with Milwauke Journal Sentinel Online she stated:

"I'm sure people are going to be upset with me. I don't want to lose my national delegate status," says Bartoshevich, a 41-year-old emergency room nurse who is a convention delegate, pledged to Clinton, from Waterford in Racine County.

She said she planned to vote for Clinton at the convention, but in an Obama-McCain match-up in November, "I will not be voting for Obama. I will cast my vote for John McCain.

Said Bartoshevich: "I just feel you need to have somebody who has experience with foreign matters."

Bartoshevich called herself a "devoted Democrat" who, she said, had never voted for a Republican for president.

"I'm on a lot of the (pro-Clinton) blogs, and so many people, male and female, feel the same way as I do," said Bartoshevich, who was listed as a Racine County co-chair for the Clinton campaign and who traveled outside Wisconsin to volunteer for Clinton. "The Democrats jumped on this wagon of Barack Obama and nobody really knows him."

She still holds out for the possibility of a Clinton comeback. And she cites the associations of Obama's pastor, people like Ayers, etc... yada yada yada..... need I go on?

Joe Wineke, the chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, was understandably shocked when told this afternoon that one of his state party delegates is now a McCain supporter.

"Not a delegate? To the national convention?" asked Wineke, who was getting ready for the start of the state party convention Friday in Stevens Point.

"We have a Clinton national (convention) delegate who says she's voting for John McCain?" Wineke repeated, for clarification. "I've never heard of such a thing."

Wineke said "almost everybody I know who was for Hillary" is solidly behind Obama now. As for Bartoshevich, he said, "my suspicion is she doesn't know what she's getting into" because "the delegates to this convention will be very upset."

Sadly, it doesn't look like they will boot her faux Democratic ass:

Asked if publicly supporting the other party's presidential nominee could affect a delegate's convention status, Wineke said, "I never thought I'd ever get a question like this."

After some preliminary checking, the state party chair said he assumed she would remain a delegate.

Lets hope Mr. Wineke looks into this further, just to be sure....

So, there you have it.  This is what happens when a Dead-ender is allowed to give interviews and pretend to represent the Democratic Party.

[UPDATE:] Not that it matters, this has slipped down the list, but anyway...

From the WI Democratic Party Delegate Selection Plan:

Party Leaders & Elected Officials (PLEO) Delegates: Delegates Democrats eligible for PLEO delegates are big city mayors, statewide elected officials, state legislative leaders, state legislators, and other state, county and local elected officials and party leaders. Candidates for these positions must file a written statement of candidacy and a signed pledge of support for their presidential candidate. These delegates are allocated to presidential candidates based on the statewide results of the presidential primary or caucus.

and....

Also add this, from the Wisconsin Delegate Selection Plan

In electing and certifying delegates and alternates to the 2008 Democratic National Convention,Wisconsin thereby undertakes to assure all Democratic voters in the state full, timely and equal opportunity to participate in the delegate selection process and in all Party affairs and to implement affirmative action programs toward that end, and that the delegates and alternates to the Convention shall be selected in accordance with the Delegate Selection Rules for the 2008 Democratic National Convention, and that the voters in the state will have the opportunity to cast their election ballots for the Presidintial and Vice Presidential nominees selected by said Convention, and for electors pledged formally and in good conscience to the election of these
Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees, under the label and designation of the Democratic Party of the United States, and that the delegates certified will not publicly support or campaign for any candidate for President or Vice President other than the nominees for the Democratic National Convention.
