Dirty F'ing Hippies!
Thu Aug 07, 2008 at 10:59:42 AM PDT
GOP Senate candidate Steve Pearce of New Mexico seems to have discovered the ability for time travel, as he has apparently gone back in time to the 60s - or in his case, perhaps never left - and found some compelling reasons to vote for him over his Dem opponent, Tom Udall.
Plus he seems to have the same understanding of the Inter-Tubes as John McCain.
The NRSC "Polls" me. Here are my responses.
Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 05:26:13 PM PDT
Going through my mail, I noticed an official looking piece of mail which clearly stated 'Poll'. My initial thought was that it was my Colorado primary mail-in ballot. Upon opening it, I started laughing immediately and the top of the poll stated (all caps) REPUBLICAN SENATE LEADERSHIP SURVEY. Of course, these things are nothing more than a plea for a contribution, but I read the poll anyway. More hilarity ensued. I was thinking I would actually complete and return this, but then thought it would be more appropriate to share with my fellow kossacks. Follow me below the fold for my "answers" to this "poll".
New CBS Poll has Obama up by 6
Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 03:38:52 PM PDT
New CBS poll shows no change from a prior one which was conducted in June: Obama leads by 6: 45 / 39.
There is a large percentage amount of undecided: 13.

PPP Florida: McCain 47 Obama 44
Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 10:33:50 AM PDT
This is the 3rd consecutive poll taken over the last week that has McCain in a small lead of somewhere between 3-6 points. Though I dismissed the SUSA (because of overweighting of Republicans and results showing 16% of African Americans voting for McCain) and FL Chamber of Commerce polls (who are those guys)?, I do not dismiss this poll.

Liberal Media: Nearly 50% Hearing Too Much About Obama
Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 09:50:53 AM PDT
Watch out liberal media: your endless cheerleading has caught up with you. In a recent poll by the Pew Research Center, nearly half of those polled are tired of hearing about Obama. What has been endless banter about the "fresh face" in this year's election has backfired on the very media outlets that seek to thrust Sen. Obama into the White House.
Fabulous Freeper Update (Vote again today!)(Shameless Pimping for a Good Cause)
Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 09:13:35 AM PDT
Good morning peeps!
Yesterday I published a link to Steve Pearce's website. For those of you who don't know, Steve Pearce is the idiot who gave up a safe republican congressional seat to take on one of New Mexico's most popular and respected sons, Tom Udall, for the US Senate. Most of the polls show Tom winning by 25-28%. It's going to be a wild west ass kicking, kids.
Women Are Worrywarts... For Good Reason
Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 08:26:03 AM PDT

National Women’s Law Center
At the National Women’s Law Center, we have fought stereotypes about women for more than 35 years. Stereotypes that say girls aren’t good at sports and science. That women are better suited to serve coffee than to serve in the military. That women are too emotional to be in positions of power... to name just a few.
As we all know, those stereotypes are ridiculous. But it’s impossible not to notice that there are quite a few points where women and men differ in the poll results we’re releasing today. [There is a key area where women and men have similar views –- Roe v. Wade. Watch a video of Marcia discussing the surprising poll findings around this issue at the end of this post.]

Obama back up 47%-46% in Rasmussen
Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 07:29:23 AM PDT
There was a lot of freaking out on DailyKos when Rasmussen's tracking poll had McCain taking a 47%-46% lead over Obama, when leaners were included. I was part of that freak out, not particularly because I thought Obama was falling behind in the race, but that McCain had seemingly broken that 45% barrier that had filled me with the confidence that we would win in November. Then, Zogby issued a telephone poll with McCain up 42%-41%.
But, since then, Gallup has bounced Obama to a 47%-43% lead and I assumed that Rasmussen would be soon to follow. Gallup's tracking poll tends to pick up movement in the race faster than Rasmussen.
On the flip.
Help Choose A New Mascot For The GOP!!
Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 12:50:23 AM PDT
The elephant, an icon that stuck after appearing in a political cartoon by Thomas Nast in 1874, has had a good run serving as the symbol for the Republican Party.

But does it truly embody today's Republican?
As a concerned citizen, I feel it is our duty to help the GOP rebrand itself and update its' image with one that is more emblematic and timely. With your help, I am sure we can come up with something that is truly representative in this modern day and age.
Steve Pearce's Wacky Online Poll (Go Vote!)
Tue Aug 05, 2008 at 04:41:33 PM PDT
The geniuses at the Steve Pearce campaign (for those of you who don't know Pearce, he is the guy who is going to lose the US Senate race in a landslide to Tom Udall, one of the greatest guys I have ever known, here in New Mexico) have a great gimmick on their website, an online poll asking us who we are voting for in the Presidential Race. So far the results are like 200-5 for Obama, not the results they were looking for. Go, do your duty...
Show Steve who we are voting for...Show Steve who we are voting for...
Hillary Clinton as VP
Tue Aug 05, 2008 at 01:36:54 PM PDT
There has been a lot of discussion recently about who the VP choice will be For Obama and McCain. There are arguments for and against many potential candidates. Some have merit and others do not. I have noticed that some of the names thrown out there, particularly on the Democratic side, suggest a stealth strategy that is designed to help certain congressmen this fall. In particular I believe that Nancy Pelosi has tried to inject names into the discussion that gives some free advertising publicity for congressional Democrats. After all, if someone's name comes up in the discussion of VP then people may jump to the conclusion that the member of Congress is a strong leader and worthy of being reelected. If that is so, kudos to Nancy Pelosi and others for working the VP question to our collective benefit.
GOP Gov & Possible VP Likes Obama Energy Plan Over McCain's
Tue Aug 05, 2008 at 01:36:11 PM PDT
Yesterday In Lansing Michigan, Senator Barack Obama gave a comprehensive, detailed time-lined speech/plan on our short term and long term energy goals. Everyone knows this.
But the Alaskan GOP Governor (and sometime mentioned McCain VP choice), endorsed Obama's energy plan over her GOP counterparts John McCain. Not too many people know this (or the details of Obama's plan). Thanks media.
Palin is the third major GOPer in the past few days, to endorse Obama or one of his plans. She was a frequently mentioned darkhorse VP due to her management skills and good looks. A recently revealed State Trooper scandal may tamp that down VP talk.
Despite the bad week many Obama supporters felt he had last/early this week, with new polls (Gallup Daily, AP-Ispos), new Obama commercials, agressive campaigning and trickling major GOP support. Times are looking better for Obama this week (if you ever felt it wasn't).
Let's examine what Gov. Palin liked and disliked below.

Barack Obama's "Silent Majority" - A Hard Look at the Real Numbers
Mon Aug 04, 2008 at 08:49:59 AM PDT
A Left Anchor Original
I know some of this has been covered already, but if you keep reading, I think you'll find we've added in some nuggets to fight that bad case of Mondays. So read on, and put a smile on your face, because McCain's got serious structural defects in his current support, while our guy is outperforming even our best expectations on a broad away of demographics.
The LA Times takes up the increasingly spreading meme that Obama is "presumptuous" and "arrogant." Talking to world leaders, planning a transition to the White House, putting his campaign logo on the tail of his plane -- just who does this guy think he is?
Fox News host Sean Hannity told viewers last week how "presumptuous" Obama had become. Proof: The candidate told congressional Democrats that the world had been waiting for his hopeful message and that to some he had become a symbol of a "return to our best traditions."
It gets even better below the fold. Keep reading.
Rasmussen Daily Tracking Poll - McCain 47%, Obama 46% (Leaners)
Mon Aug 04, 2008 at 07:30:27 AM PDT
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows the race for the White House is tied with Barack Obama and John McCain each attracting 44% of the vote. However, when "leaners" are included, it’s McCain 47% and Obama 46%.
This is the first time McCain has enjoyed even a statistically insignificant advantage of any sort since Obama clinched the Democratic nomination on June 3 (see recent daily results). Tracking Polls are released at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time each day.
A week ago today, Obama had a three-percentage point lead and the candidates were even among unaffiliated voters. Today, McCain leads 52% to 37% among unaffiliateds.
McCain is currently viewed favorably by 55% of the nation’s voters, Obama by 51%. That is the lowest rating for Obama since he wrapped up the nomination.
WAPO: Poll on Working Class Voters. Obama Leads 2:1 and + 10 Among Working Class Whites
Sun Aug 03, 2008 at 10:41:47 PM PDT
Although a lot of Kossacks are getting exercised over McCain's version of the Mad Men (check out this great show if you haven't), WAPO has actually published a poll with a national sample of 1,350 working class voters. The sample includes voters between the ages of 18-64 who work at least 30 hours or more per week and earned no more than 27k in 2007.
The poll was taken from June 18 to July 7, so it doesn't actually cover the period of Obama's trip overseas + McCain's flurry of negative ads, but the poll has some interesting findings which should hearten Kossacks and get them refocused on what is really on the minds of the American people.
the "My only telephone pole is a cell phone poll"
Fri Aug 01, 2008 at 05:44:05 PM PDT
How on earth do they take a poll these days? People that are at home with a land line and time to take a poll must be few and far between but they also must be conservative to a point to be in that block of potential voters. At home at dinner time with a land line. It reminds me of the early days of the war in Iraq when we heard how the Iraqis were happy we were there (80%-20% or some such stupid odds) and I couldn't figure out how they got those numbers. Without basic services I couldn't imagine there were telephones readily available and doing the man on the street thing seemed dangerous as all get out.
How can one poll show Obama up by 15 and another almost even? You notice not a one has McCain in the lead. We know Republicans are audacious but how audacious is the question now. We also know they have to make it look sorta close in order to steal it.
Freep This Poll: Who Went Negative First?
Fri Aug 01, 2008 at 07:19:05 AM PDT
Kind of odd that USA Today is running a "You Vote: Who Put Out The First 'Negative' Ad" poll alongside a pretty clear timeline showing it definitely wasn't Obama.
McCain's "Dr. No" web ad came out on June 25th. The RNC's "Balance" ad came out on July 7th, and Obama's reponse ad "New Energy" came out the next day. And yet 30% of the people who've responded to the USA Today poll so far either believed Obama went negative first or said "They're Equally To Blame." Just goes to show the stubbornnes of that 30% of Americans who still approve of Bush's job as President.
Unfortunately for us, that stubborn 30% is probably quite likely to vote in November. And while McCain's "Celeb" spot is easily the most tasteless ad released so far this cycle, things are bound to get far more negative. As good as the polls are looking so far, we've definitely got our work cut out for us if we want a Democrat in the White House next January.
A Call To Arms! (Poll)
Fri Aug 01, 2008 at 03:25:40 AM PDT
I need Kossacks to help!
It's time to fight back against media companies who insist upon publishing lies and distortions. Here in New Hampshire The George J. Foster Publishing Company publishes two daily newspapers, Foster's Daily Democrat, which is circulated in Dover, Portsmouth and Rochester, and The Citizen, which covers the communities of Laconia, Gilford, Gilmanton, Tilton, Plymouth, Franklin, Belmont and Sanbornton. Both newspapers are, and have always been as far to the right as the notorious Union-Leader published in Manchester.
This past Sunday Foster's Daily Democrat trashed Barack Obama in an editorial Obama takes an imperial tour of the Old World in which it observed
Obama's grand tour of Europe and the Middle East was the most presumptuous and pompous act in the modern history of American politics.
